what to say when you don't have anything to say
Someone asked me a great question this week:
“I know it’s important to post content, but I’m not an expert in anything. What do I say when I don’t have anything to say?”
My answer - be honest! No one likes a fake expert. Learn in public. Ask questions. Document what you’re experimenting with. You’d be surprised how quickly this can snowball into a great reputation.
Practically speaking, this can be:
- polls or questions on LinkedIn
- blog posts on a new technology you’re learning
- hypothetical case studies on a protocol or regulation you’re reading up on
- reviews or recommendations of educational materials and books
- even videos or podcasts where you pose questions to experts
Visible curiosity is almost as good as visible expertise.
